Kristen, now remarried to a man named Steve, recognizes her ex-husband on a friend's Caribbean holiday video, running a tourist charter boat service on the island with who she presumed to be her son, Mark. Immediately, Kristen flies to the island and although she does not have a passport, she is allowed in. The hotel that Kristen stays at has a very helpful owner, Patrick, who tells her where Mathew runs his business. She finds him, and pays $400 for a day of sight-seeing with Mathew, who assumes she is just another tourist. Mathew has memories of his mother, but believed that she died in a fire when he was three while he and his father were out sailing. Kristen did not tell Mathew that she was his mother when she first saw him because she didn't want to scare him away.
The next day, Boden, the local police chief, questions Kristen about not having a passport and she is forced to reveal her entire story to him. Not believing this, Boden calls Williams, who is away for a few days getting supplies from another island and says that an American woman is questioning his identity. Kristen contacts Steve, back in the USA, and asks him to fax information on Williams to Boden, so she can prove that her story is true.
In the meantime, Mathew calls and tells his dad about how he took a nice American woman on the boat today, but she asked a lot of questions. He found it strange though, considering Boden had left a message on their answering machine, telling about how an American woman had been asking them.
Panicking and realizing that the woman is Kristen, Williams tells Mathew to leave the island of Santa Alicia permanently and sail to another island, Salt Cay. Little did they know though, that a category four hurricane was coming straight for the Caribbean islands. Kristen, once hearing about the news of Mathew leaving, sails for the island of Salt Cay and finds Williams waiting there on a boat.
Having no choice but to confess what he has done, Williams (Quinn), apologizes profusely to Kristen and to Mathew, and explains the whole story. Knowing that the police are after him, Kristen and Mathew allow Williams to take a motor-mount boat to another island where he can escape the police. Surviving the hurricane, the story ends with Mathew returning to his hometown of Los Angeles with his mother and Williams, still in hiding.
My opinion on this movie is that it was very good. It had a very good theme and a very good plot has well. I think the movie well represented mothers and their roles. They're here to protect their children and if anything happens to them, they won't stop until they find them and have them back home safe.
Although I really liked the story, I thought they could improve on their acting skills. Also, they could have shown what happened to the father instead of leaving off with him still hiding on an island.
